taboo

that having been said, let me start this blogpost..

A few weeks ago I started a project to get more in contact with my own body. I decided to create artwork for certain parts of the body, researching a different body part each week.

To get started on this, I figured I'd work on the most taboo bodypart first: the vagina. I researched, brainstormed about-, meditated on-, sketched, and eventually sculpted vagina's (mostly vulvas). Below are a few sketches, and the sculptures.

The sculptures can evoke strong reactions in people, from very positive and happy ones ("wow cool!!"), to mildly negative ones ("ewww gross!"), and ofcourse the cleaners at school who decided to rip them off the wall and throw them away. I guess that's what happens when you enter an area that is taboo. It definitely get's very interesting. I want to explore this subject further and dive into the (cultural) taboo's surrounding the vagina, but also explore the visual side of it.

Just doing.. It does make me more happy and productive. I hope my work will be good enough as well :)

morning creativity

The people who know me, know that I'm always trying out new things.

So currently I have a new thing that might actually stick (though I say this about all these things I try out!). Before I start on the school work, I take some time to create something for myself. Usually it is either a mandala, or a page in my personal visual journal. I love the freedom of being able to do everything I want, before moving on to the assignment stuff.

I seek bliss, joy and beauty in everything I do. I love to share, to connect to people and to give bits of love and joy to myself and to the world.

When I connect to these values that are so important to me, I see them come back in almost everything that I do. I see it in a small sketch, a summer picknick, I see it in my dancing. Everything I create, I create from that place. This is what drives me.

Interactief: probleemkeuze en plan

Onderwerp: HKU-studenten zien nauwelijks werk van studenten van andere klassen en opleidingen binnen de school.

Plan: Ik ga een wekelijkse expositie opzetten in het BKV gebouw van de HKU, elke week komt daar nieuw werk te hangen, dat de studenten zelf (onder toezicht) komen ophangen en neerzetten. Na het inrichten is er een kleine expositieopening waar de studenten eventueel hun werk kunnen toelichten aan geïnteresseerden.

Ik ga allereerst een goede planning maken, om dit idee zo sterk mogelijk te maken en om het ook goed binnen de tijd uit te kunnen voeren. Snel meer!

Interactief: Rustketting

Dit is het uiteindelijke product geworden voor mijn klasgenootje (zie ook deze post). Hierboven zie je de lege ketting, met je vingers kan je gemakkelijk tussen het elastiek door om iets in de ketting te stoppen of eruit te halen. De inhoud van de ketting zie je hier onder: gekleurde lapjes stof speciaal ontworpen voor de persoon in kwestie. Er is een lapje met een oefening, een herinneropdracht, een lapje met haar favoriete parfum, en een songtekst die ze goed vindt.

Deze lapjes kunnen in de ketting gestopt worden, waardoor het geheel een kleurrijke uitstraling krijgt:
